first_imgYuvraj Singh is back with a bang and he knows it!India hated him the last time he batted against Sri Lanka at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. It was the final of the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 and after a poor start, Virat Kohli was playing another blinder, taking the Sri Lankan attack apart on his own. But Yuvraj, made a mess of it at the other end, barely putting bat to ball. Two years later, Yuvraj was back as part of the most consistent Indian T20 team in history. He was once again in the company of Kohli and once again, India were in a bit of a spot. The stakes in the Asia Cup match last night were not high as that World T20 final  but Sri Lanka were just threatening to dictate terms after a modest batting display.  Chasing 139, Kohli had dropped anchor after the openers were dismissed cheaply by Nuwan Kulasekara. Suresh Raina’s innings had sent the required rate on an upward surge. And then in walked Yuvi to bludgeon the Sri Lankan attack with an 18-ball 35. The knock was studded with three fours and three sixes and it brought back memories of the old Yuvraj. And what’s more? India made it to the final of the Asia Cup for the first time since 2010. (Asia Cup T20: MS Dhoni thrilled after Yuvraj Singh’s blitz against Sri Lanka) The old Yuvraj could put any attack to the sword and do it without breaking a sweat. Stuart Broad was sent packing for 36 runs in an over in Durban, Brett Lee was treated with disdain and Wasim Akram was not given the respect he merited in tense World Cup clash.advertisementMore than a decade later, with young aspirants watching from the sidelines, Yuvraj gave a demonstration of his genius. He waited for the right moment and the right bowlers. He was in the zone last night and he let the world know about it. (Yuvraj Singh turns the heat on in Mirpur after bowlers shine) “It was one of those days where I felt my flow was back,” Yuvraj told BCCI.TV. “I needed a bit of a flow out there to feel good. I felt being positive out there when I got a few hits off my bat. I felt that my game is back. I just needed some time in the middle. I have been trying to get as much batting time as possible and I believe I have been picking up slowly. I was assessing which bowlers I am going to attack and which bowlers I won’t,” he said. Yuvraj had looked rusty when he batted for the first time in his comeback. India were chasing a stiff target at the SCG to complete a series whitewash against Australia and Yuvraj’s wild swings provoked outrage. However, two meaty blows in the last over sealed the deal. He has been more circumspect this time, ready to spend time in the middle. (Yuvraj Singh needs confidence to perform well again: Shahid Afridi) Against Pakistan last Saturday, Yuvraj was happy to play second fiddle as Kohli took on Mohammad Amir and the rest of Pakistan’s pace attack on a green pitch. The southpaw stayed put and arrested the slide with a patient 14 not out off 32 balls. And the new Yuvi, like the old Yuvi, will deliver whatever the team demands.”Last game, it was a different situation where we needed to take a spell out and get a partnership going. I took my time out there where I could leave a lot of balls and get a partnership going along with Virat Kohli,” Yuvraj said.”It was a small total so I could take a lot of time. This game we needed more than seven runs an over so it was important for me to be positive on Tuesday. I just wanted to go and get my flow back. Once my flow is back, I feel that I belong here. I take a lot of confidence from this innings because I needed a few big hits and when you are striking the ball like I was today, it gives you a lot of confidence going into the next games.”India will play UAE tomorrow in a game that only has academic interest. And then the final on Sunday. If Yuvraj fires in both these games, India will be unstoppable at the World T20 which starts at home later this month.Cricket is that game. Life could turn a full circle for Yuvraj. After his heroics five years ago, the game has given him another chance to do an encore.advertisementlast_img
