first_imgA complaint has been filed against noted playwright Girish Karnad for holding a placard which read ‘Me Too Urban Naxal’. Karnad carried the placard during an event organised to mark the first death anniversary of Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru.Complainant Amruthesh, in his complaint, said that Karnad was seen sporting a placard declaring himself as an urban naxal. Amruthesh is also the defence lawyer of all the accused in Gauri Lankesh’s murder case”Urban Naxals are those who spread insurgency against the nation,” he said in his complaint and demanded that Karnad be arrested immediately, news agency PTI reported.Talking to PTI, Amruthesh said how can somebody carry a banner of a banned organisation and support it.The term ‘Urban Naxal’ has been widely discussed following the arrests of five activists for having alleged links with naxal organisations and also organising the Elgar Parishad which led to the Bhima-Koregaon violence last year.
