Some believe that Mayfield, because of his personality and a few off-the-field incidents, is destined to fail in the NFL, just like Manziel. It doesn’t help that both players were drafted in the first round by the Cleveland Browns. That said, neither Manziel nor Mayfield believe that the former Oklahoma star is destined to wind up just like his predecessor. Manziel is rooting for Mayfield to succeed – and Thursday, he even offered him a little advice.Speaking on The Dan Patrick Show, Manziel said that Mayfield should figure out a way to trust the people around him. Clearly, he doesn’t think he did enough of that.Via USA Today:“I feel like Baker’s in a better situation, having a vet quarterback in there in Tyrod [Taylor]. There’s not pressure on him to come in and start Day 1, and I think he’s going to go into it and he’s going to learn from the vets. It hurts when you don’t have a guy like Joe Thomas on the O-line, because once I started to get to know Joe and started to pick his brain, I really started to learn a lot of stuff. He’s got good people around him, he’s got a great group of receivers. And trust in those guys they have around him. That would be my advice to him. Baker’s got the fire, Baker’s got the spark, and I think he’ll do alright. But don’t let the pressure of everything else that goes on get to you. Just go out and make football the main thing.”Here’s video:Manziel, who signed with the CFL last week, seems to be in a better place than he was back when he was on the Browns.Mayfield will be one of the most scrutinized players in the NFL – whenever he gets his shot on the field. He’s either going to be the reason for the Browns turning their franchise around, or just another Cleveland quarterback bust.last_img
